Natural Protocols for Maximum Well Being During the Dark Times
Well, It’s that time again.
The nights are long, the days cold, and all the things are upon us.
Have a cold? Gut busted? Need to relax?
As your resident hermit and online advisor this Winter, I’d like to start by sharing some of my top 5 most essential Wellness tips for maximum health, especially during the cold months.
And please, friends, let me know your folk remedies in the comments!
Since time immemorial we’ve been sharing them.
I love that kinda stuff.
Okay here’s 5 Allies that’ll Level up your Wellness Game:
- Oil of Oregano
Or as I like to call it, Orega- Hell to the no-no-no. Lol.
This oil is antiviral, antibacterial, and antifungal. Got a gut bug? Boy, bye. Oregano is great with saying NO to whatever little single celled buggers are keeping you down. I like to eat it in capsules. In a pinch add a handful of fresh oregano to bone or mushroom broth and lots of lemon to heal your cold or flu. This, combined with significant rest n’ hydration. And love.
2. Lemon, Lemon, Lemon
Put lemon on it. Put lemon in it. It’s so good. And it’s so good for you! Warm lemon water in the morning will refresh your spirit. Lemon water throughout the day will keep you alkaline and hydrated. And really, hydration is the key to wellness in general, because for real water is life. Source organic lemons and keep them around to cut fresh and squeeze in your tea, water and food.
3. Adaptogens for Stress
There’s a plethora of amazing adaptogenic herbs and mushrooms out there, and I believe that in today’s modern world, their help is a requirement, not an option. If you struggle with anxiety or depression, find a daily adaptogenic blend that works for you.
It’s crucial to your balance.
I personally work often with our fungal friends like Chaga, Reishi, and Turkey Tail to support immunity.
I also love Ashwaganda, Tulsi, Astagalus Root, American and Chinese Ginseng and Shizandra Berry for adaptive support.
I suggest you ask nature and synchronicity to point you in the right direction as far as what you resonate with from this list . No matter which adaptogen feels like the right match, I highly recommend a daily dose of them for you, though. It’s a gamechanger.
4. Peppermint Tea
Lately I’ve been realizing how much I underestimated Peppermint Tea. It’s fricken delightful. Especially with honey and a little bit of…ahem…lemon. Wink wink.
Peppermint aids digestion, clears headaches, and refreshes the spirit.
I can’t stop drinking it this winter. It’s my new favorite treat. It soothes the nerves on a deep level, and it stimulates the blood. It’s also awesome to make a cuppa for the bath. Both cooling and stimulating and hot water simultaneously?! Sensational!
5. Epsom Salt Baths
Magnesium thooooough. Let’s talk about it. Magnesium helps us absorb both Calcium and Iron in the blood. It’s high frequency. It fizzles. It sizzles. It also supports nerve function.
I love to add a few drops of essential oil to my salts before soaking. Lavender for calming. Cedarwood for Grief. Ooh and Hyssop connects us with the Lady of the Green Herbs in ritual healings and baptisms.
Don’t have a tub? It’s cool. Make a scrub. Scrub yourself down with some epsom salt, olive or coconut oil, and essential oils of choice. I also add a lil’ honey to the mix when i’m feeling sweet n’ salty. Just don’t eat the stuff. External use only!
Plus here’s a BONUS TIP!!!
BONUS TIP: Dry Brushing
If all else fails, and you’re feeling punky this winter, take a dry towel and rub on the surface of your skin upward towards your heart. This stimulates your lymphatic drainage system and helps you to move stagnant chi. I like to do a dry brush right before I get into the shower. I find the exfoliating scrub gloves to be especially effective. I do my best to tickle the surface of my skin, because this is where the lymphatic lines live. I also remember to always direct my brushing towards my heart.
It’s symbolic really.
Moving all energy towards the central heart.
Increasing circulation, detoxing, and softening.

Anyways, I hope that these tools help you as much as they’ve helped me over the years. I don’t remember to do them all the time, but I do my blessed to keep these rituals in rotation.
Especially when it’s cold and dreary!
I hope we all get lots of good rests, yummy healthy eats, deep sweats, and hydration.
